Multi-Section Food Packaging
Food packaging comprises multiple factors from the first to the last stage. Between the beginning and the end the amount of time that passes has a critical affect on the product. Understanding all the factors is of utmost importance to success. Learn how Indepak is able to provide knowledge and experience from start to finish.
The Challenge
A tray with seven sections would hold food products that would need to be preserved for longer shelf life. When filled the tray needed to be strong enough to support the contents while maintaining a balance to sit level when served. This required engineering design to precisely construct the bottom of the tray. The tray needed to facilitate the longer shelf life and once the tray was filled with delicious snacks, an automated lidding process would seal the deal.

The Solution
Understanding of the various materials available that are food friendly and sturdy in structure was a key to the final product. Additionally, recognizing which materials is acceptable to work with automated lid films was a crucial concern.
Indepak design engineers crafted a seven compartment tray in an approximate overall size of 9″ x 12″. The depths of all seven cavities were calculated to aid a level balance and the curvature of the bottom of the cavities helped to facilitate this feature. The material selected was also coordinated with the type of lidding film that would be applied once the foods were added.
The Result
This thermoformed food packaging tray not only serves all required functions, but is shipped nested for shipping and storage savings. Additionally, when you serve this up to friends and family, it’s a delicious win, win!
