Blister Packaging Options
There are several different types of blisters that blister packaging suppliers can provide, including the following:
Face Seal Blisters – Face seal blister packaging works well with many products, especially inexpensive and lightweight retail items. For this type of packaging, we heat-seal a custom plastic blister to cardboard backing. If you need more security for heavier or more expensive items, we can extend the plastic to the edges of the cardboard backing and seal it. This is known as a full face seal blister.
Full Card Blisters – In some cases you might prefer to have the plastic extend to the edges of the cardboard and wrap around. For this type of blister packaging, you just slide the card into place. We typically do not seal these types of blisters, but they often are secured using a small staple or two.
Trap Blisters – A trap blister can be an excellent option for many retail products, and many retailers like this type of blister because it reduces the amount of plastic we need to use for packaging. For trap blisters, we create a plastic cavity that surrounds your product perfectly and then we “trap” that plastic between two pieces of cardboard. This can be a very economical packaging option for many products.
Unit-Dose Blisters – For our medical and pharmaceutical clients, we can design blisters to hold single doses of medication. We can design medical packaging for non-sterile and downstream sterilization applications, and our detailed record-keeping ensures traceability down to the box level.
Custom Clamshells – A clamshell actually is a type of blister packaging that folds onto itself. We can create a basic clamshell with a hinge at one end as well as creating tri-fold clamshells. Tri-folds offer a high level of versatility because they can hang from a peg in a store or stand upright on a shelf, providing you with multiple display options. We can create clamshells for just about any product, including retail products, electronics, specialty food items and much more.
Other Packaging Options – While we are expert blister packaging suppliers, we can create more than just blister packs and clamshells. We can create tubs (with or without lids) and custom thermoform trays. These can be a basic tray with one cavity or a tray with many cavities, such as those needed to hold tool kits, medical kits, agricultural products or even frozen dinners.
Of course, not everything we make is a package. We can create parts or whole products. Our facility includes multiple lines of high-speed thermoforming equipment, allowing us to meet the needs of a diverse clientele. Materials We Use & Sustainable Options
Our production team has extensive experience with a wide range of thermoform plastic materials. Whether you need something with anti-static properties or packaging suitable for food contact or medical supplies and equipment, we have a material that will fit your needs and budget.
Our thermoforming equipment is capable of processing thermoform plastics from .008” up to .080” in thickness, and foam materials from about 1/16-inch to ¼-inch. Our years of experience combined with the variety of equipment capabilities allows us to process many types of materials, including ABS, HDPE, HIPS, OPS, PET, PETG, PP and PVC, as well as starch-based biomaterials.
Virtually all of the materials we use at Indepak are recyclable, and we are experts in creating trap blisters and other combination designs that reduce the amount of plastic we need to use. We also can create many types of packaging using materials with recycled content or those starch-based bioplastics we mentioned above.
